60 (D-71) Bryce Canyon: flowers, mountain lions and stars

60 (D-71) It's March 1st today; spring isn't too far away.
Nature... the flowers, the animals, the sky:

--Bryce Canyon Paintbrush is a flower that grows only in the Bryce Canyon National Park region. It seldom grows more than 6 inches tall (between 7 - 15 cm) and is pale to deep fushia in color. Flowering season: May - August. Remember that picking wildflowers is illegal in all National Park Service areas.

--Mountain Lions have one of the highest hunting success ratios of any predator. 80% of the time they chase a deer, the deer becomes their food. At Bryce Canyon, Mountain Lions are most often seen in winter.

--In most rural areas of the United States, 2500 stars can be seen on a clear night. At Bryce Canyon, 7500 stars can be seen twinkling in the void!
